Sex panic: a type of moral panic, defined as any mass movement that emerges in response to a false, exaggerated, or ill-defined moral threat to society and proposes to address this threat through harsher laws, tougher enforcement, expanded surveillance. The punitive state: a state that emphasizes incarceration as the preferred sanction for a growing number of infractions while a crime-centered approach shapes the activities of functionaries working in offices unrelated to the penitentiary.
